Rain / 雨

May is the plum rain season on the island. Somehow, with the global climatic change, it has rained more than usual these two years. Even though I have learned not to dislike rain, the downpour can be quite a spoilsport. It takes away my desire to dress like a lady and sometimes I just wish I could stay home all day long instead of running in the rain frantically.

Well, there are always ways to survive. Since I can't stop the rain, I should live with it. I don't care how people think of my attire anymore. Every day I go out with my Birkenstock flip-flops though I've been critized for my purposeful sloppiness. When the rain wets my toes, they do not feel annoyed. What's there to worry when they know they'll dry up again, without shoes and socks to stop them from breathing?

PS: This is not a super painting, but it's my first acrylic piece on canvas! Thank you for looking.

This illustration is very original and the blurriness really adds to the feeling of rain and wet.

A good excuse for your little toes to have some fresh air.

great piece! I like how you took a different perspective and just showed the figures' feet.

You really did something different showing the rain falling on the floor and on the toes.
I don't like rain too (I feel exactly the same way you do, but since I bought a wonderful, beautiful, exquisite new umbrella I began to like walking in the rain a little bit.

I like how wet this painting looks! I agree that when it's wet, it's better not to get socks and shoes wet as well. We've had so much rain here in the northeastern US...I'm getting a bit tired of it! I hope the sun shines soon for you:>

For a first, I'd say you're off on a good start with that medium!... but I'm no expert, of course... heck, I'm not even an amateur! :p

The rain must feel good on your toes, though. But is it cold or warm rain?

Thank you everyone for your comments. I actually used the crayon effect in the Photoshop after having done the painting part. It makes the illo look better.

The rain is not so dislikable when the heat goes to the top and the air is SO humid. However, I was talking about raining for a whole day a while ago. Now that the plum rain season is over, there isn't so much rain anymore. It's the question of choosing between unbearable humidity and unbearable heat:-).

Is the rain warm or cold? It depends. After it rains for a while, the temperature kind of drops and it's really cool. At this moment, there is only warm rain. I do like the smell of rain, the smell that reminds me of the earth and the grass.

I actually thought of trying acrylic on canvas two months ago, but the part-time clerk in the art shop scared me off by telling me how difficult it was etc. The canvas laid in my bedroom for a while. This week I decided to discard the technique thing and go with the flow. It turned out to be ok and I think I'll do better with more practice!

Love the choice of details and the wetness the feet convey.

I think you did a fabulous job with the acrylics! I really like the strong rain pouring down at that angle!

Looks like you were testing out new waters with this piece ;)
I love how you focus on the feet, usually its the head that gets all wet, but wearing umbrellas its true, its mostly our shoes that take the rain. Our feet dipped in blue.

Thank you for sharing your experiences about the rain with me:-).

I did notice something interesting here and abroad. When I lived in the US, friends put on socks even indoors. It's so hot here that doing so will worsen the whole situation. People, especially women, love to wear sandals because it feels cooler that way!

Thanks so much for your comment. Yes, my paintings are done on computer through a program called Art Rage. Using it certainly has proved to be to a fun way to liberate at least that part of my mind called imagination.

I think your attitude is just great, I would do the same. Your painting give a fine perspective on that huge rain, very good.

It's nice to receive so many words of encouragement for my first acrylic painting. And I have to admit, I love the medium!

If this is your very first image on canvas I definately want to see more! The way you depict rain is the way I FEEL rain. Feet first...shoes all wet, soaking through socks, and splashing up my legs. It has been raining here in New Hampshire, USA for the LONGEST time and we just had another inch today. I enjoyed all of your blog site!
